Shelly part of all-star ownership of Rideallday
IF STAR power could propel RIDEALLDAY to the winners' enclosure, the recent Port Royal Sprint winner would be a shoo-in for Saturday's $300,000 Mouttet Mile at Caymanas Park.
Shortly after landing the November 16 Port Royal Sprint, it was revealed that the three-year-old United States-bred grey colt had changed ownership from promoting company Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited to an all-female syndicate.
Mum was the word, except the syndicate moniker, Cassiopeia Racing Inc (named after a constellation of five stars), until STAR Sports unearthed the seven new part-owners of RIDEALLDAY, the most recognisable being Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, two-time 100-metre Olympic gold medallist and five-time World champion.
Fraser-Pryce, who has won more individual global sprint titles than any other female sprinter in history, is joined by a who's who of local females as part-owners, a cast fit for the social pages.
First up is Jacqueline Stewart Lechler, director, Stewart's Auto Sales Limited, joining others to include Cheryl Peart, promoter Live and Direc, and wife of Mayberry Group chief executive officer Gary Peart.
Jan Lawe, executive international health insurance adviser, Lawe Insurance Brokers, is also part-owner of RIDEALLDAY, a winner of six races from nine starts, the last being a terrific last-furlong kick to nail DESERT OF MALIBU stealing home in the six-furlong Port Royal Sprint.
Donna Waithe, senior vice -president, human resources and administration, Main Event Limited, is also among RIDEALLDAY's new owners, joined by Stephanie McConnell, mother of rally driver Fraser McConnell and wife of Peter McConnell, managing director, Trade Wind Citrus Limited.
Rounding out Cassiopeia Racing Inc is Isiaa Madden, chief architect, The Pinnacle, a four-tower, 28-storey cutting-edge luxury resort in Montego Bay, the tallest residential towers in Jamaica.
RIDEALLDAY, who remains under the care of 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny, will be ridden by United States Hall of Famer Javier Castellano and was yesterday drawn to break from post-position 11 in the 16-horse field vying for the $24.9 million winner's share of the $45 million purse.
Feanny also saddles SUPERNATURAL POWER with Panamanian Dick Cardenas for owner Colin Karjohn with whom he had teamed up to win the first Mouttet Mile with EXCESSIVE FORCE in 2023.
Only two native-bred horses, Jamaica Cup comeback hero MOJITO and 2000 Guineas winner SENSATIONAL SOUL, made the Mouttet Mile final cut following the withdrawals of this year's Jamaica Derby winner, I DREAM AGAIN, and RUN JULIE RUN, last year's derby runner-up.
Florida invader NAUTICAL STAR, trained by Anthony Nunes, has been setting the exercise track alight and is expected to start favourite with champion and leading jockey, Raddesh Roman.
