Thompson and Seville advance to men's 100m final; Blake misses out
Jamaica will have two competitors in the final of the men's 100 metres at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships as Oblique Seville and Kishane Thompson booked their spots in comfortable fashion.
Akeem Blake, Jamaica's other entrant, failed to advance after finishing fifth in his semifinal in a time of 10.12 seconds and out of contention for a qualifying position.
Thompson looked his usual powerful figure as he raced home in heat two in 9.85, an identical time to Kenny Bednarek of the USA who was awarded the win.
Seville, on the other hand, banished concerns after his heats as he was in full control of heat three, taking the win in 9.86s and advancing to the final eight.
The results mean Thompson will line up in lane five for the final, while Seville is set to contest from lane seven.
Defending world champion Noah Lyles will run from lane four while Bednarek will line up in lane six.
The final is set for 8:20 a.m. Jamaica time.
