Local coaches pick Coley
Former Jamaica senior national women's team assistant coach Andrew Price believes a local coach should be appointed for the upcoming playoff matches, arguing that an international coach would have neither the time nor the familiarity required to stabilise the squad.
"What known international coach will take on an interim job with four days of training and two games in four days? The answer is none," Price said.
"It is best if we stick with somebody locally who has coached and is acquainted with the current crop of players. In my estimation, the two best people would be Theodore Whitmore and Miguel Coley."
Price added that the Reggae Boyz need a fresh approach and a coach with new ideas to lead the national side forward.
"We need a new voice, we need a new philosophy, and we need a new format for these two games. I think the players are looking for something to refresh them and get them up and ready."
Veteran local coach Anthony Patrick echoed the same sentiments, stating Coley is the right fit for the job.
"I think a local coach should get the job, and right now I am looking at Miguel Coley. He has been an assistant coach under Schafer and is coaching overseas now, so he would be a perfect fit," Patrick said.
"He has a lot of experience because he has spent a lot of time overseas coaching, and he knows what to do to take us to the next level."
