PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

In a landmark moment for the nation's sporting history, the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) has officially named a 50-member delegation to compete at the 2025 Bolivarian Games, marking the country's first-ever participation in the prestigious event.

The team, ratified by the TTOC's executive board and council, will travel to Ayacucho, Lima, Peru, for the Games, which run from November 22 to December 7.

The delegation of 32 athletes and 18 officials will compete in three sports: men's and women's cricket, cycling, and surfing.

The selection underscores a strategic push to provide elite athletes with new competitive platforms, with the cricket teams also eyeing crucial development ahead of their quest to qualify for the LA 2028 Olympics.

Leading the charge as chef de mission is the experienced Lovie Santana-Duke, who expressed immense pride in the milestone.

"It is an honour to lead TT's first-ever delegation to the Bolivarian Games," Santana-Duke stated. "This moment represents far more than participation; it reflects the commitment of our athletes, the dedication of their support teams, and the pride of our nation. We are stepping onto a new stage with confidence, discipline, and unity."

TTOC President Diane Henderson hailed the occasion as a pivotal step in the nation's athletic development.

"This is a landmark moment for TT Sport. Our athletes will have the opportunity to compete on a new international stage and gain invaluable experience as they prepare for future regional and global competitions. We commend their dedication and look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success."

The team features a mix of established stars and emerging talent. Track cycling phenom Nicholas Paul and fellow cyclist Makaira Wallace will represent the red, white, and black on the velodrome.

Established in 1938, the Bolivarian Games (Juegos Bolivarianos) are a regional multi-sport event held to honour the legacy of Simon Bolivar.

Organised by the Bolivarian Sports Organisation (ODEBO), the Games aim to foster unity, friendship, and athletic excellence among the nations he helped liberate.
