Residents from the Rocky Point in St Thomas says they need government help.

Business owners in Rocky Point district in St Thomas are seeking government intervention, as they say they have been without electricity and potable water for months.

When THE STAR visited the small fishing village and beach recently, one resident, Robert Simpson, pointed to his seafood restaurant that is currently being built.

"You should be able to come here and sit down and eat fish, because we get the fish as we have the resources, but we need help," Simpson said. "We need infrastructure. No light nuh deh yah, no running water either, and it can't continue like that. We are the forgotten people in St Thomas. The Government need fi come and develop the place."

Simpson said that he has tried to improve matters by trucking water to the village, but he insisted that he needs assistance.

EMPTY PROMISES

"Everything weh happen down here, a me do it. Even when the road waan bush, a me get somebody to do it," he said. "A lot of 'necktie men' come here and mek big promises, and nothing nuh come out of it. We're not asking for a handout, just come and see what you can do."

In addition to their plight, there is also a garbage pile-up. "The rubbish truck nah come again," Simpson said.

The Rocky Point Fishing Village accommodates approximately 100 fishermen and seven shop owners. Another shop owner, Patrick 'Goat' Anderson, is son of Herman Anderson, who founded the fishing village. He told THE STAR that the Rocky Point Beach also needs attention.

"This beach is the best beach, but when you come here, you can't even tell that a beach is here cause it needs development," he said. "A good amount of people come here on weekends and during holidays, but dem can't stay long because there is no light here nor water."
