Hydel, Alphansus Davis, JC highlight time trials

HYDEL High School, Alphansus Davis High and host Jamaica College (JC) were among the standout performers at the JC Time Trials on Saturday at Ashenheim Stadium, as athletes delivered several eye-catching performances across track and field events.

Hydel High's girls were in dominant form, especially in the sprint and hurdle events. In the girls' Class Four 200 metres, Hydel swept the podium as Janique Nembhard led the way in 26.16 seconds, ahead of Keneisha Robinson (26.62) and Reneka Reid (26.71).

Robinson returned to win the Class Four 70m hurdles in 11.19 seconds.

In the girls' Class Three 200 metres, Jadeann Patterson of Alphansus Davis clocked a brisk 25.73 seconds to hold off Hydel's Tyecia McDonald (25.81).

Kevina Bourne of Hydel High was impressive in the Class Two 200 metres, winning in 25.18 seconds, before returning later to place second in the 400m in 58.01.

Shemonique Hazle captured another sprint double for Hydel by capturing the Class One 200m in 25.26, just edging Alphansus Davis' Lindsay Shanika.

Hydel's dominance continued in the quarter-mile events. Oshea Cummings won the girls' Class Three 400m in 59.80, while Sashana Johnson topped the Class Two 400m in an outstanding 57.02.

In the senior girls event, Alphansus Davis' Shanika Lindsay registered a strong win in 56.45.

Middle-distance races belonged largely to Alphansus Davis. Ameiah Samuel captured the Girls' Class One 800m in 2:21.95, while Tabbrel Williams won the Class Two event in 2:19.74.

Alphansus Davis also dominated the Open 1500m, sweeping the top four places, led by Alikay Reynolds in 5:01.67.

ASSERTED STRENGTH

In the field, Hydel High again asserted their strength. Zavien Bernard cleared 1.70m to win the high jump, while Sabrina Atkinson leapt 5.60m to top the long jump.

Wolmer's Girls, meanwhile, found success in the throws, with Tianna Brown winning the discus with 36.41m.

On the boys' side, JC ruled the sprint events in the younger classes. Jaiden Whyte led a clean sweep of the boys' Class Four 200m, winning in 24.10, while Tariq Creary took the Class Three 200m in 23.39. JC also dominated the hurdles, winning all three junior classes.

The senior boys' quarter-mile provided one of the highlights of the meet as Alphansus Davis' Daniel Francis stormed to victory in the Class One 400m in an impressive 47.47, with JC's Omary Robinson close behind in 47.85.

Alphansus Davis were equally strong in the longer races. Nicholas Frederick won the boys' Class One 800m in 1:58.61 and returned to take the 1500m in 4:12.74, capping an excellent day for the school.

In the field events, JC's Denzel Phillips dominated the discus with a massive throw of 51.19m, while Jaheem Fisher of St Catherine High topped the javelin with 41.33m.
