Vauxhall coach hails team despite 4-2 defeat by Wolmer’s
Vauxhall Hall High gave up a 1-0 lead in their Group D ISSA Manning Cup match at Mico College and were whipped 4-2 by Wolmer's Boys but coach Javaunie Coldlin said it was a proud display by his Vauxhall team.
Jevauni Cummings put the visitors in front after only two minutes but Jayden Walters equalised with a header on 23 minutes.
Nathaniel Brooks slotted home three minutes later to put Wolmer's in the lead and Addon Daye extended that lead in the 43rd minute to make it 3-1 at the break.
Dante Dacres converted from the penalty spot in the 54th to make it 4-1. Andre Williams made the game interesting when he capitalised on a defensive blunder six minutes from time but Wolmer's completed the win which put them level with St Jago at the top of the group on six points.
"I am proud of my players. They fought hard and that was part of the prematch talk, to fight no matter the score and I think they did that today. So I am proud of them," Codlin commented
"We try to nullify Wolmer's and at times it worked. We tried to use the counter-attack and got a glorious chance at 3-1 to go 3-2 and it would have been a totally different game had we converted that.
"But we are coming on well. We are trying to mould the group into what we want and we are putting in the work and it's showing. So they should be proud of themselves given what they demonstrated in the game," he said.
His counterpart Jerome Waite was pleased to see the fightback from his team.
"We were on the backfoot. We took a while to get going but once we got going you could see we were the better unit. Four goals speaks volumes but we still have a lot of work to do.
"We need to possess the ball more and we need to make use of our opportunities. But what is good is that we are creating opportunities," he said.
