Powerade Finals Rematch, Boom El Clasico set for National Heroes weekend
The second staging of the Boom El Clasico preseason matchup between perennial rivals Arnett Gardens and Waterhouse takes place on an interesting twist this year with addition of the Powerade Finals Rematch between Jamaica Premier League (JPL) champions Mount Pleasant and beaten finalists Cavalier.
On October 15, at Drax Hall, Mount Pleasant entertain Cavalier in a repeat of last season's JPL final. The following day, National Heroes Day, October 16, at the Tony Spaulding Complex, Arnett Gardens will face Waterhouse.
The winners of each game will take home $500,000 with the losing side to receive $300,000.
Both games were announced at a press conference yesterday and CEO of the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL), Owen Hill, said the addition of the finals rematch is another positive step for the local game and praised Wysinco for its support in promoting the sport.
"This partnership support marks another step on the journey. Through its (Wisynco) key brands, Boom Energy Drink & Powerade, the clubs will get another opportunity to display their footballing talent.
"This boost in invaluable, as now, not only will we be having the Boom El Clasico for its second staging, we have also expanded the package and added the Powerade Finals Rematch to the calendar.
"Fans will now be treated to two high-energy preseason games with four of the most sought-after teams going head-to-head over two days, to kick-start the local football season," he said.
Both games will see teams fielding the new teams for the upcoming games and prizes and surprises will be on show, noted Hill.
"The teams are expected to benefit significantly from this initiative and by extension the other premier league clubs," he said
Kadechah Henry, brand manager for Boom Energy Drink, said they are glad to be part of the event.
"It was a no-brainer to partner again with the Professional Football Jamaica Limited for the second staging of this electrifying showdown of talent, passion and rivalry," she stated
Chantellee McDonald, Powerade brand manager, said they are excited by the initiative.
"We are glad to be a part of the first staging of the Powerade Finals rematch," she said.
