Paul Hall rues manner of defeat to Catalonia

After watching his team lose 6-0 to Catalonia in their friendly football match yesterday, Jamaica senior men's team head coach Paul Hall said that too many preventable goals were conceded.

The Catalonians were led to victory by Gerard Deulofeu, who scored a hat-trick in the fourth, 29th and 45th minutes.

Marc Bartra in the 34th minute, Ferran Jutgla in the 74th, and Javi Puado (89th) were the other scorers for Catalonia at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi in Girona in Catalonia, Spain.

Hall told STAR Sports that the team made too many defensive errors during the match.

"I thought that even though they were a good team, we gave them chances through our own individual errors and it taught me a lot about the players all around," Hall said. "I am disappointed with the goals that we conceded because I think that they were preventable against a very good team."

The Reggae Boyz will next play against Suriname in a home and away tie in their opening-round matches of the Concacaf Nation's League on June 4 and 7. Hall said those games will feature a more experienced squad.

The Reggae Boyz defensive included Jamoy Topey, Ramone Howell, and Ajeanie Talbot and were no match for the swift Catalonia attackers as they raced to 4-0 lead at half-time with Deulofeu already bagging his three goals by then. Talbot was substituted after the first 20 minutes after an injury.

Hall said that Talbot and Tarick Ximines, who was also injured, will undergo medical assessments today.

Former national assistant coach Bradley Stewart said he was not surprised by the scoreline.

"I have said before the game that I wouldn't be surprised if we get 10-love, but we only got six-love, so probably there was some information that the coach gleaned from some of the Catalonia players," he said. "I think that if you don't train together, then you are not going to know enough about players and teams and structure, and all of those things, so there is no surprise in terms of the score for me."
