Jago hunt revenge
St Jago High School head coach Glen Laing says he will be coming for revenge when they meet Bridgeport High in a top-of-the-table clash in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)-FLOW Manning Cup Group G today at the Dunbeholden playing field in St Catherine. Kick-off time is 3:30 p.m.
In the reverse fixture, Bridgeport beat St Jago 2-0 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on September 19. With Bridgeport leading the group on 17 points from eight games and St Jago in second position on 16 points from seven games, it is a crucial clash for both teams.
St Jago have a game in hand as the fixture against Hydel was called off on Wednesday after five minutes due to heavy rains.
Now, with an intense battle for group honours and the automatic FLOW Super Cup spot, the St Jago-Bridgeport affair is of great interest.
"The aim is to get the Super Cup spot, and that means we have to finish on top in the group," Laing told STAR Sports yesterday.
"We went down to Bridgeport in the first game between the teams and we are on a revenge mission," he added.
"The team is improving. I'm going to push them for this game and, hopefully, we can come away with full points to move to the pole position," Laing continued.
In other games in the group, Calabar is expected to get the better of Cumberland; and Hydel is highly fancied for a big win against lowly Campion College.
Already qualified Wolmer's Boys are the only team yet to drop a point. The Heroes Circle-based school will look for a ninth straight victory when they travel to JosÈ Marti. In the reverse fixture, Wolmer's won 4-0.
The Vassell Reynolds-coached Wolmer's have scored 30 goals and conceded once.
Other teams that have qualified for the Manning Cup second stage include reigning champions Jamaica College from Group B; and Kingston College and Denham Town from Group C.
