O'Hara at home at Racers
Racers Track Club new-boy Michael O'Hara believes he has seamlessly fit into his University of the West Indies track base, adding the only expectation of him to make Jamaica's Olympics team to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this year.
He will be running the 200m at today's NCB Intercollegiate Championships inside the National Stadium, where the 19-year-old is looking for a fast time in his event.
"I am expecting to just run a very good race and to run a very pleasing time to see where I'm at," the athlete said.
"I am injury free, I am around some pleasing people and respected people so I am always motivated," he added.
O'Hara, a former Calabar High School captain and golden boy at the GraceKennedy Inter-Secondary School Sports Association (ISSA) Boys' and Girls' Championships went professional last year.
"The only expectation of me is to stay fit and healthy and run good times this season and that's my ultimate goal right now to try and make the Olympic team," he said.
He stressed that it is very different at the high school level and professional however.
"In high school your main focus is track meets, Champs and Carifta but now it's more of a life structure plan that you will set for yourself hoping to be the best and to be one of the best in the world," explained the 19-year-old.
O'Hara is already a Digicel and Puma ambassador and describes them as two great companies.
"They work with me hand in hand, they look about my best interest both in school and track and field," he said.
