Under the tutelage of Renaissance Disco selector and label owner Tarik 'Jazzy T' Thompson, Hanover-born recording artiste Rane Son is expanding his musical horizons. Now based in Florida, the dancehall artiste has demonstrated that he has the potential and drive to take his career to an international level.

"My home is still in Hanover, but being in Florida has had a great impact on my career because I have been introduced to several remarkable individuals, who I am currently working with as a team," Rane shared with THE STAR.

"In Jamaica, I never had a team nor the resources to push my career."

Since the release of Walking Bank, the first official single in his catalogue, Rane Son's fan base has been increasing at a modest pace.

Building and maintaining a fan base on the local scene, he says, "has been made possible with social media". He is quite active on Instagram, where he hosts a Q&A feature and a live-show session called 'After Dark', which has been quite successful. "For this feature, I interact personally with persons who join in," he explained.

Rane Son, whose given name is Zedon Robinson, landed a collaboration with dancehall's unstoppable superstar, Vybz Kartel, titled Moneyholic that is already amassing impressive numbers on streaming platforms and owning solid rotation on radio. The idea for Moneyholic was thought up during a studio session. He was presented with a Vybz Kartel hook, which was transformed into another one of the young artiste's money-themed tracks, sticking to his mantra to be "a mini-bank that constantly attracts money".

"We thought it would be a great idea and would bring forth something extraordinary, so I wrote my verses," Rane Son said.

The collaboration, for Rane Son, was, of course, a dream come true, but he knew that he would need to provide lyrics to stay on par with the dancehall 'Teacha' and impress listeners of the genre with his songwriting talents.

The accompanying music video currently sits at over 500,000 views on YouTube, and he anticipates that it will have a huge impact on the dancehall and reggae music genres.

Seeing the success of the track so far, he expressed, "I am extremely grateful for it, and mad respect goes out to every person who has contributed to the collaboration, which I also expect will expose my sound to a whole new market."
